River Charter Schools Discipline Policy

March 4, 2016

Dear Lighthouse Families,

We are officially finished with our second trimester of school! We have only one trimester left to go in our inaugural school year! Thank you so much for all your help in making Lighthouse great! You have spent countless hours volunteering in the classrooms, going on field trips, helping your children with work at home, creating crafts and costumes for our programs, and donating snacks to the classrooms and the after school program! It is the combined effort of our amazing families, outstanding staff, and the wonderful West Sacramento Community that have made our first year great!

While we have done what we can to make our first year the best it can be, we have found that a few changes needed to be made to take us to the next level, and to insure that our school is both safe and welcoming for all students. With that being said, we have adopted the River Charter Schools Discipline Matrix, and we will be following this matrix when dealing with behavior challenges at school. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the RCS Discipline Matrix so that you know what to expect going forward. The purpose of this is not to suspend or expel kids, but to create some consistency in how we handle behavior challenges, and to help deter the behaviors that are not good for our learning environment. We are still the school that knows every child by name and need, and we will continue to do everything we can to support all students at Lighthouse.

If you have any questions or concerns about the Discipline Matrix, feel free to email me at kwashington@LighthouseCharterSchool.org.
